South Maui Golf Trip – Wailea Gold Course

South Maui Golf Trip – Wailea Gold Course

Glad you’re here. Let’s check out the Wailea Gold course.

Your arrival experience at the Wailea Gold course won’t differ from the Wailea Emerald. I’ll add a link in the description below to the Maui Golf Vacation – Wailea Emerald video for quick access.

The Wailea Golf Club has the top-ranked golf instructor in Hawaii, Claude Brousseau, on staff if you’re interested in lessons. The rates for private sessions are reasonable. They also offer on-course lessons.

  • The Gold Course is our second favorite. Like the Emerald Course, every hole is absolutely gorgeous. On many of the holes, you feel like you can reach out and touch Molokini. Ocean views like you’ve never seen. If you like to take scenic photos, bring your camera.
  • This course has been honored by the experts as one of the best resort courses in America.
  • This course has more lava rocks and natural foliage than the Wailea Emerald Course. That being said, it’s a good idea to bring extra balls. This course is more challenging, at least for us, than the other two. I feel like there are a more significant number of hazards on the Wailea Gold. Either that or I was having an off day and found every bunker.
  • The course is still my second favorite. I love the challenge of this course. It’s easier to get tee times on as well. I decided to get in an extra nine holes on one of the days and booked a tee time on the Wailea Emerald. When I got to the starter, he said that he’d just sent out a large group before me and that if I wanted to switch to the Wailea Gold, I’d have no one in front or behind me. I gladly switched.
  • If you struggle with traversing small hills and walking a bit, this might not be the course for you. My husband and I have no issue with this. The greens are not always close to the cart path, and there may be a hill you climb to get where you need to go.
  • Restrooms are at holes 7 and 15.
  • This course, too, you don’t pass by the clubhouse during the round. The concession cart is your only source of refreshments.
  • I will include a link to the scorecard so that you can get course length details in the description below. Wailea Gold Scorecard

In the last video, I told you about Gannon’s, the on-site restaurant. If you want something different after your round, you can go to Mulligans on the Blue Course for lunch. It’s very close, but you will need to drive there.  Check the hours to confirm they’ll be open for lunch. We were surprised a couple of times.
The food is good and at reasonable prices. The atmosphere at Mulligan’s is what you would expect for a Scottish Hawaiian pub. I, of course, had fish tacos that were delicious. They got creative with the tortilla since all they had were the large burrito size flour tortillas. I loved it! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.

I thought I’d throw in a day of site-seeing recommendations.

One of our favorite things to do is visit the town of Makawow. There are many wonderful places to eat and some fantastic art and gift shops. One thing about Hawaii, many of the stores in the high traffic areas carry the same novelty items. In Makawow, you won’t find much of this. Roaming the streets here is a relaxing, enjoyable adventure.

In the late afternoon, there is a spot just past Momma’s Fish House at Ho’okipa Beach Park, where the turtles and more come up on the beach to rest. When you first glance, you think you’re looking at black boulders. Nope, those are animals. They don’t want folks getting down in the middle of the sea life, but you can get plenty close to appreciate the view.

Mamma’s Fish House is a famous restaurant. The setting is so idyllic that you feel like you’re on a movie set. The food here is always great. Reservations are hard to come by, so book way in advance. Know that this restaurant is one of the pricier restaurants.

The Wailea Gold course is such a fun challenge and one you shouldn’t miss.

Next Up will be the Wailea Blue Course.
